Sustainability & Stewardship of Trails
Join fellow trail enthusiasts for a day dedicated to learning, sharing, and caring for our local trails. Together, we’ll explore how sustainable trail practices can protect our favorite outdoor spaces and strengthen our trail community for years.
What You’ll Learn
Participants will learn hands-on techniques for building and maintaining sustainable trails, connect with fellow trail stewards, and make a lasting impact on the health and longevity of local trail systems.

You Must be 18 Years of Age or Older to Attend Workshops
Volunteers supporting the development and maintenance of natural surface trails and outdoor recreation.
Professionals in trail, community, or recreational planning and development.
Professionals in outdoor retail and recreation.

The field events will be hands-on learning involving manual labor outdoors using shovels, rakes, picks, and other tools often used in trail maintenance and landscaping. Experience using these types of tools is preferred.
Field events are probably not for you if you cannot lift 25 lbs, work outside comfortably for several hours, or have other serious health conditions.

A willingness to learn, engage, and discuss in a group setting.
Closed-toe shoes, ideally a work or hiking boot.
Clothes appropriate for the weather and working outdoors.
Sunscreen or other skin care appropriate for the conditions.
Water and a water container.

Trail Sustainability Principles: Learn design and maintenance techniques that keep trails fun, safe, and lasting.
Stewardship in Action: Discover how every volunteer can play a part in caring for local trails.
Field Assessments: Walk the trails with experts to spot common issues and identify opportunities for improvement.
Hands-On Field Work: Put your knowledge into action with guided maintenance projects in the field.
