Mandan Park Grand Opening: A Day to Remember

The trails are officially open — and what a way to celebrate. On June 6th, we welcomed over 200 participants to the Mandan Park Grand Opening, and the energy from start to finish was something special.

The SE Precinct Bike Patrol rode alongside kids for the trail system's first official run, mounted OPD officers drew a crowd of their own, and trail builder Riley led a community group ride that put the new trails to work right away. Bike Collab served 60–100 riders with guided rides and loaner bikes, while WMBA brought out a large crew of women — including three first-timers — showing exactly the kind of welcoming spirit that makes this community great. The opening ceremony featured remarks from Tommy at Omaha Parks & Rec, Julian Andrade from PACE, and Yesenia Peck from the Nebraska Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, grounding the celebration in the partnerships that made it possible.

Beyond the rides, the day was a full community experience. Seven bikes from Free Bikes for Kids — inspected by Trek Midtown — were raffled off, the GOATZ & Dale partner run brought out 20+ runners, and roughly 15 local organizations connected with neighbors at community tables. DJ Animal kept the music going while Maria Bonita and Relish food trucks kept everyone fueled. Days like this are a reminder of what we're really building: not just trails, but a community that shows up for them. Thank you to every volunteer, partner, and neighbor who made it happen. The trails are open — let's keep them strong.

About the Trails

Mandan Park features twelve new natural-surface trails totaling approximately four miles, winding through a dramatic woodland landscape with climbs, contours, and optional rock features for mountain bikers seeking an extra challenge. The wider-than-average paths welcome walkers, runners, and cyclists alike, with most routes open for two-way travel. A paved former park road also runs through the trees for those who prefer a smooth stroll, with family-friendly wood features known as “The Launch Pad” to help build riding skills and support rider progression.

THOR and Omaha Parks & Recreation remain committed to growing this space as a destination for connection, healthy activity, and nature exploration for the entire community. Explore the trails →
