Preseason Volunteer Kick-Off Meeting & Cookout
As we kick off the 2026 trail season, we’re inviting our Trail Leaders, Trail Champions, and dedicated volunteers to join us for a morning of connection, collaboration, and great food.
We’ll spend time sharing plans for the season ahead, swapping ideas, and building momentum together—then the THOR Crew will fire up the grill with meat, veggies, and a few tasty sides to refuel and hang out.
Please pre-register so we can plan ahead and make sure there’s plenty of lunch ready for everyone. We can’t wait to gather and get the season rolling!
This in-person gathering is for people interested in volunteering with trail maintenance. It’s an opportunity to align on the year ahead, share updates, and make sure everyone has the tools and support needed for a successful season.
Trail Meeting Agenda — 9 AM to 12 PM
We’ll cover:
2026 THOR trail program and maintenance schedule
Available THOR resources and how to reserve them
Trail crew support — what to expect and how THOR can help
The critical role volunteers play and the direct impact you have on trail quality
Open discussion, questions, and feedback
Your leadership, time, and boots-on-the-ground experience are essential to maintaining high-quality, sustainable trails. We truly appreciate everything you do to support our mission.
Please let us know if you’re able to attend. Pre-registration helps us plan ahead and make sure lunch is ready for everyone.

Thank you for everything you do for our trails — we couldn’t do this without you.
TAP Trail & Education Day at Swanson Park
Join us at Swanson Park as we kick off the Trails Adoption Program (TAP) for the season.
We’ll spend the morning clearing debris, trimming back overgrowth, and getting the trail corridor ready for spring riding. It’s simple work, but it makes a big difference. Every branch moved and every section cleared helps keep the trails safe, fun, and flowing for the whole community.
The Trail Adoption Program (TAP), designed to support and inspire our wonderful community! This program invites volunteers and local organizations to become trail stewards. By adopting our cherished community trails, volunteers play a vital part in keeping them safe, enjoyable, and sustainable for everyone to appreciate.
TAP Education & Training
Volunteers will learn how to log hours, understand TAP expectations, and work effectively in teams — building connection and ownership of the trail.
No experience necessary. THOR will provide guidance and education throughout the morning, including tool safety, basic maintenance techniques, and what to look for when caring for your adopted section. You’ll be supported every step of the way.
What to bring:
• Work gloves
• Closed-toe shoes
• Water
• Loppers or hand saws (if you have them)
• Bug spray
We’ll begin at 9:00 AM with a brief safety overview and plan for the day, then break into small teams to get started. Afterward, feel free to stay, ride, and connect with fellow trail supporters.
Taking ownership of our trails keeps them strong. We hope you’ll join us.

Mandan Park Grand Opening Celebration
You’re Invited!
Mandan Park Trail Grand Opening
Join us as we celebrate the official grand opening of the new natural-surface trail system at Mandan Park — a major investment in outdoor access for South Omaha families and trail users of all ages.
This exciting new space features a welcoming network of natural-surface trails winding through a dramatic woodland landscape, along with a dedicated skills area designed for mountain bike progression, learning, and youth programs. Wider-than-average trail paths climb and contour the park’s hillsides, creating an enjoyable and accessible experience for walkers, runners, and cyclists of all abilities.
Community Celebration
Saturday, June 6, 2026
10 AM to 12 PM
Mandan Park | South Omaha
Come celebrate, explore the new trails, and be part of what’s next for South Omaha’s outdoor spaces.
About the Project
The City of Omaha Parks & Recreation Department, in partnership with Trails Have Our Respect (THOR), invites community members to experience this exciting new addition to Omaha’s growing natural-surface trail network.
Mandan Park now features approximately four miles of newly completed natural-surface trails across twelve segments, including optional wood features for riders seeking added challenge. Designed to be beginner-friendly while still engaging for experienced users, the system encourages exploration, confidence-building, and connection to nature.
As development continues, Omaha Parks & Recreation and THOR remain committed to creating inclusive spaces that support healthy activity, youth engagement, and meaningful outdoor experiences close to home.
“We’re excited to see Mandan Park become a place where families, kids, and trail users of all ages can experience the outdoors together,” said Abraham Mora, Program & Engagement Coordinator for THOR. “This project reflects what’s possible when community partners work together to bring more access to nature into neighborhoods.”
A Community Vision Taking Shape
Mandan Park was envisioned as a welcoming greenspace for families and youth in South Omaha. Through collaboration with Police Athletics for Community Engagement (PACE), the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA), and numerous community partners — and guided by the Omaha Natural Surface Trails Feasibility Study — the park’s 18 acres now include beginner-friendly trails and a dedicated skills area designed to support learning and progression.
These additions expand equitable access to trails and create more opportunities for youth and families to connect with nature right in their own neighborhood. We hope you’ll join us to celebrate this milestone and experience Mandan Park’s new trails firsthand.
